Like Romeo In Black Skinny Jeans
We recently acquired a copy of the upcoming documentary about Sid & Nancy that explores alternate options to her death other than Sid murdering her. I haven't viewed it yet but its something I am looking forward to watching as their story has pretty much enraptured me since my youth. Like Romeo & Juliet, Bonnie & Clyde and Liz Taylor and Richard Burton its a love story and iconic summing up a time and a sense of place (London + NYC punk scenes in the late 70's)
Even as a 12 year old in the early 8o's (not long after her murder and his OD) something told me that there was no possible way that Sid would have killed Nancy they were way to dependent on each other. As a young teen I was obsessed with trying to solve the crime, and to this day I often wonder what they would be like today in what is the complete opposite of the world that they both left 32 years ago. I hope that this documentary isn't the train wreck of Kurt & Courtney.

The Anniversary Party
Six years ago today I married my best friend and the only person who put up with my Mayle obsession. And as usual he did not disappoint with my gift. Wonderful things come in Tiffany Blue boxes.

Hallowed
Today I did step one of the "getting my crown" process. I have on a temporary and spent only 2 hours and 10 minutes at the dentist. It wasn't as bad as I thought and I pretty much watched the movie "The Goods" while in the chair.
I decided that my mouth wasn't too much of a wreck and went back to work - on the way I called my mother to thank her for the musical Halloween card she sent Max and some how ended the call with promising to send her a check so her power would not be shut off.
I have no idea how on earth she continually puts herself in this situation. I am starting to feel like an ATM and just know (and fear) that the next move would be that she wants to move to Portland and live with us.
Nice ending to a Friday eh?

What's The Story Morning Glory?
Rainy Portland day needed a cheerful dress to take away the gloom and doom of the coming winter. I dug out my vintage Avignon dress in the Morning Glory print (one of my favorites and one of Mayle's most iconic prints). Paired with berry colored tights, a black cardigan and lola clogs.

The Many Layers of Marie Helen
Today I decide to wear Marie Helene - its a fairly sunny day and I felt a bit like dressing up. When I bought the dress Jane told me that putting it on is like having a Julie Christie moment, so I am making it work. Its actually a pretty chic/sexy dress that can be worn day OR night.
It's chilly so my top layer was a trench, followed by a gray sequined cardi from J.Crew with my FAVORITE skull scarf (in wool). Wolford tights circa 2008 and Lola clogs completed my outfit.
The first few photos are shady - taken in our scary bathroom (hey I work in an 1800's building that mostly artist lofts) and the good photo was taken by Matthew (friend/co-worker).
Coveting the Covets
As I did my usual eBay cruise this morning I noticed that a size 8 Vlada sold for $724 (plus shipping). WOW. I wonder who won this dress. It's one of those pieces that if you didn't try it on you wouldn't know the fit (I found it a hard fit for me personally). I hope whomever won it cherishes it, as I can tick off 5 people off the top of my head who all want this dress!

Obsession with the Double G
Lately I have been obsessed with vintage barware (though I have no bar at home and Jon and I are certainly NOT cocktail masters). Gucci made some of the most beautiful vintage glasses, ice buckets and accessories.
Don't Fear The Dentist
I have learned a VERY harsh lesson, ALWAYS follow up with the dentist. I am fairly sure that I have blogged about this before but I have an INSANE fear of the dentist - I think it goes back to the film Little Shop of Horrors when I was a child. I am the patient most dentists hate. Not good with going under, always slightly freaking out - all this and my dentist shows movies!

Mayle For Sale
When I was in NYC I picked up few old Mayle things. One was the dress (which is at the cleaners and I hope to wear this week) another was the dalmatia Spring top from spring 05 and the fabulous Domatilla cardigan from spring 06 (which I have long coveted.
After trying on Domatilla again Jon and I (and Max) think its too small. Its a size small and in MINT condition. Let me know if your interested. Doesn't it look great styled over a dress?
Monday = Valentine
I haven't worn this Valentine dress from holiday 2007 in two years and I decided to bust it out on this rainy Monday. Paired with my favorite J. Crew cardigan.
Delicious
After a year I FINALLY got to eat lunch at BUNK Sandwich bar and it did not disappoint. Above is a photo of the tuna melt that I enjoyed with some bacon and egg potato salad. If you are ever in PDX this must be a stop on your lunch list.

Lazy Salad
I was invited to a friends tonight for dinner (and they are an AMAZING cook) normally we bring wine but this week we were asked to bring a salad. Of course I am a pretty terrible cook so I went to whole foods who had no good salads in their pre-made case. Everything was a super salad of grains and kale so I had some quick thinking and quickly gathered spinach, red onion, pecans, feta cheese and orange. Wha-la a salad. Hoping it tastes good.
Still Searching
After receiving my J.Crew leopard flats in the mail, I had to return them due to a too short toe box. That said I am still looking for an alternative. I did stop in at Nine West but on second look at the leopard flats that they have for $80 I realized that their was a reason that I passed them up the first time.
How hard is it to find a pair of leopard pony hair ballet flats?

Last Weekend?
This is supposed to be the last weekend of the Mayle pop up. I haven't heard if the last round of Lala dresses came in or the shoes or the belts. Have you heard anything? Let me know.

Leilani Part Deux
A sunny Wednesday in Portland (the last for awhile) so I decided to rock the OTHER Leilani that I bought in the Calvary print. Again this dress is so generously cut I sized down to a 4!! Beautiful fall day, beautiful fall dress.

Lala Dress
Its nice to have some "new Mayle" to throw on for work. Today's choice is Lala In geometric Heiroglphics. I have belted it with a vintage Mayle belt.

Sweet Sweaters
amazing sweater from holiday 2007 popped up near me. Let me know if your interested. The shop has it in black and its a large that fits more like a medium.
Random Acts of Kindness
Last night I bid adieu to NYC. As I was leaving the hotel I ran into two guys also looking for a cab who had been staying at the Ace. I had no cash on me and when a car service pulled up the two guys offered me a free ride to JFK. That's never happened to me before and how nice were those two guys? It's karma and it reminds me that I need to keep doing nice things for people as well.
That said my bag was stuffed when I returned with the following Mayle piece:
From the Pop Up:
- Leilani dress in the polka dot/floral
- Leilanie in the Calvary pattern
- Marie Helen dress
- Lala dress in geometric Hieroglyphic
- Lala top
- Florence pouch in gold
I still have a few pieces coming and wow, I am BROKE.
I also snagged the Dalmatia top for my friend Kate and a great dress from holiday 04 for $120. I think if I stayed in NYC I would possible be even broker between combing the consignment shops and this pop up.

Make It Work Moments
Being in event mode is filled with "Make it work" moments, like last night when the bartenders wouldn't stay late and I ended up bar tending (and I made $2 in tips, glad I learned something back in the day when I bar tended at Babyland on ave A).
Tomorrow is another event (and I am beyond excited).
Tonight I had a great meal at supper and then hit Elsa's on 3rd between B+C. Divine cocktails.
AND I found a great vintage Mayle dress for $120 (plus tax). It seems like a lot of people are unloading! So happy I saw Moya, and met Jen in person and reconnected with Thessaly. I also love that I ran into Yoon and she was so sweet helping me carry some very heavy shoes!

Excitement!!
After a seemingly long flight (a red eye with a sick passenger across the row) I got into town early, was able to check into my hotel and take a shower, change and have an early morning coffee with my friend Ken before going on a site check up in the South Bronx.
After running nearly all my errands for my event on Thursday night I ended up in Soho doing an apparel pull at the Originals store and then found that I had a few minutes on my walk back to the Ace to stop by the pop up. Jane wasn't in when I was there but I did get to try on some of my order, including the zeba fleur lala top which is sublime and the Marie Helen dress which is pretty LBDtastic. The Leilani was not in yet but I tried on the sample and it fit well and its really a beautiful dress.
I am hoping my other pieces come in soon, it really helps being able to try everything on.
Today I am in event mode, but I can hopefully stop in on Sunday.
Oh yeah, the girl working in the shop told us to stay tuned for more. Apparently Jane's got the design bug again....

Up Up and Away
I am leaving the beautiful fall weather of the Pacific Northwest and headed to rainy New York for two events. I am always excited to go to New York, but it does become more and more heartbreaking to leave Max especially when he tells me that he is cross with me and I should take a taxi (!) to the airport.
That said I am hoping that I packed well - my new jeans, some fall 05 shorts in black a few dresses (if I end up going out - I am a bit sick). And Sunday which should be a free day is supposed to be nice.
That said I miss New York in the fall.

Leapin Leopard
I have been searching for leopard flats for ages. I keeps finding ones that are "okay" but there is always something I don't like in the details like a brown velvet bow, some tacky crystals, the print is off, the shoes look cheap etc. As much as I would love to splurge on some Lanvin's (which are very much out of reach) I found these from J.Crew (and believe me, I am SCARED by how often I am buying stuff at J.Crew - today I am in head to toe J.Crew!!)
These retail for around $248, are calf hair and made in Italy.
Mulberry for Target
Months ago when they announced that Mulberry would be doing a designer collab for Target, I got very excited. In my excitement I forgot that most of these designer collabs never end up how I imagined (weird cuts in Rodarte for Target, JPG using extremely cheap fabric, Zac Posen just all around overpriced) Though other collections like the Anna Sui and Tucker surprised me.
This morning Max had a birthday party until 11:30, post event Jon was sweet enough to drive me to Target so I could check out the bags in person. I had been coveting the pink leopard one that's in all the ads (and I am wild about leopard). When I got there I was very disappointed. The leopard bag was plentiful and marked at $49.99 which would be really reasonable but nothing could get me past the cheap material. It was worse than PVC. I actually didn't feel good about myself holding it. I may have broken down and bought the cross body in the cerise leopard but it was sold out. I feel like with a smaller bag the fabric may be less offensive. They had many of the denim and black patent bags, in addition to denim and patent cross body - but it was the lone, last "pebble leather" cross body that I ended up buying for $29.99. The leather isn't bad, and the bag is actually pretty nice. I would say the nicest of the bunch. If the pebble leather tote had been in stock I would have snagged that too - it is online but with a trip ahead of me in two days I am going to wait. I am not sure if I will use it or eventually just put it on eBay but I like the option of having it.

Life's Little Splurges
After taking Max to a birthday party this afternoon, I enjoyed some much deserved "mom" time. I went to J.Crew and spent about an hour trying on some tops, cardigans and jeans. Awhile back I bought a pair of the new 1969 jeans at gap, but I find that when I wear them for more than an hour they get incredibly stretched out. Of course when I tried them in a smaller size they would not button - so go figure.
Everyone always raves about J.Crew's jeans, so I tried on both the Matchstick and Toothpick. As much as I loved how straight leg the matchstick was, I couldn't get over how much better I FELT in the ankle length Toothpick. I picked up a dark denim rinse. I also decided to purchase a top I tried on LAST week - the lace short sleeve top. I had a 25% off card, so everything was pretty reasonable. And I am thinking about this brocade top - even though I am not sure how me it is.
That said the new jeans are comfy and I plan on wearing them when I fly (for chic comfort of course)

NY State Of Mind
So it's official I leave for NYC on the Tuesday night red eye and have a room at the Ace. I will be in town until Sunday evening when I fly home. I have to admit I am excited to go back (even though I have A LOT of work to do for the two events that we have that week). I will also miss the boys terribly. As Max gets older I find it harder and harder to fly.
I am also excited that in what little time off I will have I can check out the Mayle pop up, try on the things I ordered and take home some loveley new pieces. I am hoping that by the time I arrive some of the things I ordered will be in.

Exciting News!
So it looks like I am 95% going to NYC Tuesday-Sunday for work (that would be a Tuesday night red eye). I have an event on Thursday night and one all day Saturday, but I would have some free time on Sunday before having to fly home which means that I could pop into the pop up.

Impulse
I was just chatting with a friend online and the conversation turned to Japanese Kit Kats (of which I am very obsessed). I just impulsively ordered $12.95 worth + $6 shipping.... I cannot wait for some deliciousness from Japan....
Still Waiting
With the cost of shipping these days (and not wanting to drive Jane crazy with shipping me packages every other day) I am still waiting for most of my order to come in. My initial panic attacks and whispered cell phone calls while at the office have ended. I can only imagine what Scott and Jeff (our CEO and our president) kept thinking every time my cell rang and I ran into the hallway to chat with one of the many lovely people who called to give me pop up updates.
As I recently rediscovered my wool black shorts from fall 2005 I cannot wait to wear them and pair them with the lala blouse in the gray leopard lace and my Jeffrey Campbell oxfords. I also have a few dresses on the way (I am hoping that they have arrived) in addition to some leather goods.
Part of me wants to say screw it, just send it as it comes, but I can imagine it will be like Christmas morning when my first box arrives.
That said with the weather turning a bit cooler, I packed away some spring/summer and pulled down some fall/winter and wore my Ignacia today with some burgundy tights, Lola clogs and a gray JCrew cardigan. Tomorrow is our office party and I am hopping to squeeze into my favorite and least worn dress the Rita in black from spring 2007.

Gossip Girl
I have been obsessed with Gossip Girl since day one and this season has been a great rebound from last season (which was pretty awful). However tonight's episode really bothered me on many levels.
1. I like the inclusion of Katie Cassidy's new character (since apparently Melrose is cancelled?) But I feel like its the blind leading the blind. Nate or Chuck would have totally checked her out by now and exposed her for a fraud and what is her secret and how on earth does she have access to all these random apts?
2. I love the new and improved Chuck Bass - BUT how could he believe Blair over the girl who saved his life (even if she was a prostitute who kept it a secret from him - AND again of course Chuck would have checked her out once he was "chuck bass" again)
3. Betrayed by the valet? How could Ivan turn on Eva after she sold a watch to save his childhood home? That's just cold and surprising.
4. And Serena how on earth can she comfort Blair when Blair has lied and cheated and schemed again and it's really no one's fault but her own? At this point I am starting to seriously dislike the Blair Waldorf character....
If I was a writer on the show I would have left on the Clemence Posey character - the story line with Blair's jealousy was just really going some where, now its back to boring old gossip girl. they may as well bring the rain wreck of jenny humphrey back.

Juicy
I was on Facebook doing some work (I swear) and noticed that my friend Paul has started blogging. About 2 years ago Paul who lives in London decided to get healthy. He started walking 5K a day and changed his diet (no booze, no treats etc). He has willpower like I have never seen before - and he has lost a ton of weight. I am insanely jealous. I have no willpower and somehow manage to get fatter and fatter.
I highly suggest checking out his blog for the amazing juice recipes he makes every day!!

My Face- In Berkeley
The company that I work for has been producing the NW + Bay Area experiential marketing for the launch of the 2011 Ford Fiesta (which I may say is one cute little car for those of you who drive. The Candy Apple Red color is my favorite and its loaded with all kinds of amazing extras).
The website Berkeley Side has a nice write up about our pop up (closing on 10/10/10). AND you can check out my face - well at least a stencil of my face up on the wall with a quote of a word that I say a little to often.
If your in the hood, stop by!

Disappointment
After what seemed to be a long weekend (with fall like weather) I began to get excited for a Mayle coat that I purchased from a buyer whose auction had ended (and I had missed bidding on). It was a coat that I owned back around holiday 2005, I rarely wore it so I sold it. I was so happy to see it for a decent price and that it was coming back into my life.
Imagine my chagrin when I received an email from the seller just 30 minutes ago telling me that they changed their mind. They refunded me (however the funds will not appear in my paypal for 3-5 day and will most likely take as long to clear now making is a 6-10 process). I am assuming that the seller either decided that they found outfits to wear with said coat or maybe wants to wait until the eBay Mayle market is hot again and re-sell for more. I know that this is something that I would NEVER do. It's bad fashion karma or maybe the fashion angels stepping in and offering an infusion to my savings.
Jon says its for the best - after chatting with Jane today I firmed up my order from the pop up and yes, the extra dough re mi will come in handy though I am really bummed about the coat. I had planned several outfits around it this coming week. C'est la vie. On wards and upwards. I look forward to my new pieces.

Favorite New Outfit
Back in 2009 I bought the Hera blouse. I never wore it - I hate wearing pants. But today I woke up determined to wear with SOMETHING. I paired it with my black wool shorts from fall 2005 and wore a cami underneath with my JM oxfords.
A new favorite that I will be repeating this week.
